Jan Lokpal Bill Is Approved by GOVT OF INDIA

Finally after all the Union Cabinet in a meeting Lokpal Bill draft has approved by the govt of India on 28 july, 2011. This Bill provides for filing complaints of corruption against the prime minister, other ministers, and MPs with the ombudsman. The Lokpal Bill which is led by civil society activists, Gandhian Anna Hazare said "The government’s Lokpal bill has a very narrow jurisdiction."

The Bill is a proposed anti-corruption law. Supreme Court and Election Commission, they will be completely independent of the governments. No minister or bureaucrat will be able to influence their investigations.

The Cabinet has cleared the anti-corruption Lokpal Bill, and has decided that the Prime Minister will be exempt from investigation for corruption while he or she is in office.

Lokpal Bill will be introduced in parliamentin in the first week of monsoon session, said by the Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajeev Shukla.

According to this approved draft, it will have a chairperson and eight members, including four judicial members, in this body will be 50 per cent members from the judiciary.


The Prime Minister and also the judiciary have been excluded from the ambit of the Lokpal Bill. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said at the meeting, "If you want to me there, I have no problem. I leave it to the Cabinet."
